Source

The incident beam, produced, conditioned, and defined before the sample. The controllers that drive these devices are on the Controls page. Each device pairs its human name with its control handle, its key specs, and whether it is field replaceable. new marks a device not yet modeled in CORA; confirm marks a value taken from the docs that staff have not yet verified.

Tier Unit
Source insertion-device (confirm: I-TOMCAT is the undulator branch of the rebuilt TOMCAT; the U15 undulator drives it, with a planned source upgrade to HTSU10 in 2027 (SRC-1))
Z span 0 to 35000 mm (confirm)

Machine

The machine-level source state, observed not driven.

Enclosure: i-tomcat-optics.

Note

The SLS 2.0 storage-ring state, the loose StorageRing pattern reused across the fleet (MACHINE-1).

Name Family PV Key specs Replaceable Status
StorageRing StorageRing SLS 2.0 storage-ring state (current, fill); observe-only, the exact handles are MACHINE-1 new confirm

Insertion devices

The U15 undulator, the variable-gap hard X-ray source feeding the monochromatic tomography endstation.

Enclosure: i-tomcat-optics.

Note

The U15 undulator binds the catalog InsertionDevice; gap is a setting tracked with the monochromator energy. A source upgrade to HTSU10 is planned for 2027 (SRC-1).

Name Family PV Key specs Replaceable Status
Undulator InsertionDevice device type: undulator
the U15 undulator (planned HTSU10 upgrade in 2027); period and gap range read confirm pending staff (SRC-1)
new confirm

Optics

The fixed-exit double-crystal multilayer monochromator, the focusing mirrors, the diamond window, and the filter batteries that condition the beam delivered to the experiment hutch.

Enclosure: i-tomcat-optics.

Note

The DCMM binds Monochromator (the GratingMonochromator sibling is for soft X-ray; this is a hard X-ray multilayer mono). The optics specs below are LEGACY TOMCAT values whose validity for the rebuilt SLS 2.0 beamline is an open question (MONO-1); the focusing mirrors are not exposed on the public pages and are deferred not invented (OPT-1).

Name Family PV Key specs Replaceable Status
Monochromator Monochromator device type: double-crystal-multilayer-monochromator
energy range: 8 to 50 keV (8-30 keV recommended until the HTSU10 source upgrade)
bandwidth: multilayer stripes 2-3%; Si(111) 0.018% (legacy spec, MONO-1)
fixed-exit DCMM ~7 m from source; multilayer stripes [Ru/C]x100 and [W/Si]x100 on Si(111), active area 150x50 mm2 (legacy TOMCAT spec; validity for the rebuilt beamline is MONO-1)
new confirm
DiamondWindow Window material: 100 um CVD diamond
CVD diamond vacuum window (legacy spec, MONO-1)
new confirm
BeamFilter Filter the filter batteries (legacy: five batteries, 10 um Cu to 400 um Al); the rebuilt-beamline filter set is MONO-1 new confirm
FocusingMirror Mirror the hard X-ray focusing / harmonic-rejection mirror(s); not exposed on the public TOMCAT pages for the rebuilt beamline, deferred not invented (OPT-1) new confirm
BeamSlit Slit the beam-defining slits ahead of the endstation; handles and blade-axis map are OPT-2 new confirm

Safety shutters

The safety shutter gating the beam between the optics hutch and the I-TOMCAT experiment hutch.

Enclosure: i-tomcat-optics.

Note

PSS permit signals are not public (PSS-1).

Name Family PV Key specs Replaceable Status
SafetyShutter Shutter the optics-to-experiment safety shutter; permit interlock handle is PSS-1 new confirm
